All students have selected their own television or film idea to direct. This has involved planning, researching, filming and editing with a focus on how they have directed themselves and others to complete the project.
Students have directed their own film or TV sequence.

JAMIE BUCKLEY Video Game Review Show - YouTube / BBC 3
If not playing click on this link to take you to original version on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BG4SGKoYURk&t=52sJamie
Tutor comments: Jamie has produced a simple guide to a video game and demonstrated satisfactory direct skills in that he planned, filmed and edited the work making technical and creative decisions in order to achieve a pass.
Evaluation additions
Tutor comments: Jamie evaluates his director skills to create a product as the writer evaluation lacked detail. This ensures a pass overall.
LAUREN CONYARD Review Show TV Programmes - Stranger Things - BBC 3 style
Tutor comments: A simple production but some demonstration of director skills via working with others, organising content and locations creative choices to try to improve work in editing process. The work meets pass criteria but is under developed and control of the project and professionalism could have been a lot better.
ABI DONALDSON: Introduction to cheerleading - youth TV
Tutor comments: The work meets pass criteria as Abi filmed on her phone after technical issues with college equipment but filmed in portrait rather than landscape which is addressed in her evaluation. She has completed short documtnayr on cheerleading and has shown an ability to direct via planning, organisation, arranging and directing subjects and meting deadlines as well as some creative choices.
WILL DONOGHUE: Skateboarding video for Extreme Sports TV station
Tutor comments: Will has achieved a superb skate video demonstrating strong director skills, organising locations and subjects and working safely. He has demonstrated auteur skills to produce a very good piece of work.
Will Donoghue evaluation, creative choices and legislation
Tutor comments: Will's Q&A covers 2.4 creative techniques with attention to inspiration, editing style and filming ideas. Evaluation of director skills are explored with intentions. Planning is explained and working with others is referenced. Risk assessing is explored. 1.3 Legislation / code of conduct is discussed relatively clearly with attention to consent, permission and working hours as well as copyright. Feedback is referred to and AFIs covered.
ADAM GRANGE: Top 10 album review 2017 for MTV
Tutor comments: Adam's review show was planned and he directed his ideas but the piece lacks finesse and is a unimaginative. He has tried to improve it in the editing process but it is long and there are some text errors. Gifs have been added where possible and the title sequence shows some attention to creative choices. There is enough evidence of directing skills to achieve a pass.
ALFIE PACITTO: The Box short film for channels such as Virgin Shorts, British Shorts, Film 4
Tutor comments: Alfie has directed a team of others in his fairly well planned short film idea. He worked with others confidently and took the lead to ensure his ideas were visualised. He arranged props, locations and actors and ensured work met the deadline. Problem solving was clear as he had to change his idea after much planning due to logistic issues but has been able to make an interesting and fairly effective short film.
ROB SHAW - Student Life BBC3 style doc
Tutor comments: A fun video that informs and shows Rob's ability to direct through panning, organisation and directing others.
Rob has evaluated his director skills / final work here:
Tutor comments: Simple evidence of ability to evaluate director skills and final piece.
EVE WELFORD: Farming documentary for a programme such as Country File
Tutor comments: Eve has demonstrated director skills through organisation and planning, working with subjects (farmer) and arranging locations to capture some really good footage. The piece was filmed on her phone and she filmed in portrait but this has been accepted as she could not use college cameras due to a technical issue and this was evidence of problem solving. She organised her time effectively and although text is a little amateur she is targeting a younger audience and explains content clearly to produce a Countryfile style segment.
LUKE WILES: Echo abstract music video extract
Tutor comments: Luke has demonstrated excellent director skills in his abstract idea showing great experimentation, organisation of scenes, locations and use of equipment. Acting very much as an auteur he has achieved his intentions and created a dramatic and enticing music video.
SAM YARDLEY Short film comedy / boxing parody Virgin Shorts, British Shorts, Film 4
Tutor comments: Sam has produced this short film which is lacking in substance and the end is poorly executed but he has demonstrated skills in directing others, selecting locations, planning ideas and piecing the footage together in the editing process.
